Gabriela Kraviez is a visual artist who lives and works between Paris and San Sebastian. She trained at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and obtained a master's degree in Aesthetics and Contemporary Art at the University Paris 8, where she also took philosophy seminars with Alain Badiou, as well as philosophical training at the University Paris 7. Between 1994 and 2014 she actively participated in courses and projects at Arteleku, a key context for the development of her artistic and theoretical practice.
Her work is situated in a space of instability and chink, understood as an opening where the unforeseen can emerge. Kraviez explores the notion of border as weaving and interweaving, articulating tensions between interior and exterior, inclusion and exclusion, existence and non-existence, as well as between theory and practice. The weave operates in her work as a structural and conceptual model, alluding simultaneously to political, geographical, cultural and aesthetic dimensions, and referring as much to the origin of text and architecture as to the body and gender stereotypes.
Throughout her career she has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in institutional, gallery and public space contexts. These include Zeru bat, hamaika bide (Artium, Vitoria-Gasteiz, 2020), Kaldarte (project in public space, Caldas de Reis, 2019), Ruido como de piedra en el neumático izquierdo (Halfhouse, Barcelona, 2019), Producción, NO reproducción (graphic work collections in the Artium Collection and Ediciones La Taller, 2018), Intoto (Fondation Ricard, Paris, 2018), Théâtre du temps (La Taller Gallery, Bilbao, 2017), Drawing Room (Madrid, 2016), his collaboration with Juan Pérez Agirregoikoa at the Jakarta Biennial (2015), A Bd Called Belleville (Magda Bellotti Gallery, Madrid, 2015), as well as exhibitions at the Pamplona Citadel (2014) and Polifonía de tiempos (Bulegoak, Hondarribia, 2013).
