Ramón Bilbao trained in stone engraving and the edition of lithographs in the art studio of the Grijelmo printing house, also attending drawing classes at the Museum of Reproductions in his hometown. In 1951 he worked as a graphic designer in the studio of Imprenta Industrial and, three years later, he combined this work with stays in Paris, where he studied classical and modern masters such as Matisse, Klee, Rembrandt, etc., as well as attending the Académie de la Grande Ghaumière. In 1959 he moved to Caracas (Venezuela), settling in Buenos Aires (Argentina) the following year, where he worked mainly as creative director of the Martín Propaganda agency. He returned to Spain in 1966.
His work has been seen in the world of advertising and publishing, but also in exhibitions in Madrid, Barcelona, Ibiza, Paris, Antwerp, Bilbao, Zaragoza, Switzerland, etc.; and is preserved in numerous private collections, not only Spanish, and institutions such as the National Library of Madrid, the Museum of Fine Arts in Bilbao, La Caixa Foundation, etc..
