Emilio Greco was an Italian sculptor, engraver, medalist, writer and poet, internationally recognized for his monumental sculptures in bronze, characterized by the elegance of their forms and the classical purification of figurative language. His work was consolidated from the fifties with important exhibitions in cities such as Rome, Munich, Paris, Lisbon and Tokyo, and with an intense exhibition activity in museums and biennials around the world. Among his most outstanding works are the Monument to Pinocchio (1953), the monumental doors of the Cathedral of Orvieto (1962-64) and Nereid (1973), pieces that reflect his interest in the stylized human figure and elongated proportions.
His recognition was reinforced by awards such as the Venice Biennale and numerous retrospective exhibitions at institutions such as the Musée Rodin and the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris.
