DESCRIPTION
ISMAEL DE LA SERNA (Guadix, Granada, 1898 - Paris, 1968).
Untitled.
Watercolor and gouache on paper.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 26.5 × 20 cm.; 40 × 33 cm. with frame.
Composition of marked abstract character, constructed from dynamic planes, curved gestures and chromatic hallmarks of great intensity. On a luminous yellow background, the brown and black shapes are articulated as signs in movement, generating a visual tension between structure, rhythm and spontaneity. The piece reveals the freest and most experimental facet of the artist, who was immersed in his most avant-garde stage.
Ismael de la Serna was an artist linked to the School of Paris. After training in Granada and coming into contact with Federico García Lorca and Manuel de Falla, he settled in Paris in the 1920s, where he developed a work close to cubism, surrealism and poetic figuration. His production is represented in institutions such as the Reina Sofia Museum, the Andalusian Center of Contemporary Art and the Museum of Fine Arts of Granada.
