The "Diana Safari" Chair by Karin Mobring in solid wood is an outstanding specimen from the early days of Ikea, a prototypical Scandinavian design chair, combining quality, robustness and purist aesthetics.
Karin Mobring began her career working for the renowned Swedish design firm Svenskt Tenn, where she was influenced by the design philosophy of Josef Frank. In 1958 she joined the interior design firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill in New York, where she worked on major projects such as the restoration of the UN and the construction of the Lever House shopping mall. Returning to Sweden in 1964, she worked as a design consultant for companies such as DUX, IKEA, Skruf Glassworks and NK (Nordiska Kompaniet). She has also created unique pieces for exhibitions, museums and public spaces. Karin Mobring is known for her innovative and functional design, as well as her use of natural and sustainable materials. She won several awards for her design achievements, including the Lunning Prize in 1963 and the Excellent Swedish Design Prize in 1970 and 1973. Today, her work is exhibited in museums and collections around the world, and she is considered one of the most influential figures in 20th century Swedish design.
