ANTONI BONAMUSA I HOMS (Barcelona, 1929 - 2007)
Standing ashtray, ca. 1980's.
Chromed metal.

Measurements: 70 x 23 x 23 cm.

Standing ashtray of minimalist sculptural design, conceived by the Catalan decorator and industrial designer Antoni Bonamusa i Homs.

Bonamusa began to work in the Alarma studio in the forties, carrying out works of scenography and interior design. Between 1946 and 1951 he was part of the technical team of a hydroelectric company, work that he combined with other activities in illustration, interior design and painting. In 1951, together with the quantity surveyor Ramon Tomàs, he created the Bonamusa-Tomàs architecture, interior and industrial design studio. After an initial collaboration with Pere Balañà i Espinós (Cine-Teatro Novedades) in the 1960s, he designed the interiors of other theaters owned by the same owner (Urgell, Aribau, Niza, Palau Balañà), thus creating his own style. He also decorated the interiors of his summer residence, the Castell de Foixà. During those years, the Spanish tourism office (Expotur) commissioned him to design their pavilions for fairs all over the world. He regularly participated in the Hogarotel shows, both presenting his own products and creating pavilions for different companies. Between 1966 and 1968 he carried out the urban planning project for Boca Raton (Florida, USA). In the field of industrial design, he worked for various companies such as Ciervo Industrial, for which he designed the Delta ashtray (1966), the Amèlia chair (1967) and the 2030 lamp (1970). Other designs include the Cúbica stool (1965) and the Venus chair (1990). His creations have received numerous Delta awards from the ADI/FAD, an institution in which he was a member (1962-63), accountant (1963-68), vice-secretary (1966-67) and vice-president (1968-69) under the presidency of Alfons Serrahima. He received the medal of this institution in 1967.
