DESCRIPTION
Attributed to GIOTTO STOPPINO (Italy). for Poltronova.
Stool, ca. 1960.
White lacquered wood and seat with leather straps.
Measurements: 48 x 56,5 x 44 cm.
Italian stool from the 1960s, attributed to Giotto Stoppino and produced by the firm Poltronova, a fundamental editor in the renewal of post-war Italian furniture.
Made of solid wood lacquered in white, it has rectangular section legs that extend vertically and are linked by curved crosspieces that provide solidity and visual lightness. The seat is composed of leather straps, fastened with exposed hardware. These straps arch naturally when tensioned, creating a flexible and comfortable surface with an organic character.
The stool reflects Stoppino's own softened rationalism, in which structural geometry is combined with flexibility and ergonomic solutions.
Poltronova, under the direction of Sergio Cammilli and with collaborators such as Ettore Sottsass and Stoppino, became a radical design laboratory committed to formal and material innovation.
