Pair of sconces; MAISON LANCEL; France, 1950s.
Brass and wood.
Electrified.
Measurements: 56 x 16 x 22 cm (x2).
Pair of wall sconces designed and produced by the renowned French firm Maison Lancel, active in the field of decorative arts and lighting design throughout the twentieth century. These pieces combine with refinement different materials, wood, brass and lacquered metal, in an exercise of balance between structural sobriety and decorative richness, typical of French post-war aesthetics.
The sconces present a clear and proportioned composition, in which the warmth of the wood dialogues with the golden shine of the brass and the discreet solidity of the lacquered metal that forms the wall base. This play of hallmarks gives the ensemble an elegant and timeless air, suitable for both classic interiors and modern environments, and reflects Maison Lancel's desire to combine tradition and contemporaneity in its designs.
The pieces have been carefully rewired, replacing the original bayonet bulb system with a standard socket system, allowing them to be used today without losing their aesthetic integrity. Likewise, both the black shades shown in the images and the original white opaline shades are preserved and delivered together with the wall lights.
