DESCRIPTION

JENS HOUMØLLLER KLEMMENSEN (Denmark,1906-1991) for Skive Møbelfabrik.
Armchair, ca. 1940.
Oak and beech wood upholstered with wool fabric "Blans".
The upholstery is from a later period.
Measurements: 90 x 80 x 92 cm; 38 cm (seat height).
This organically shaped, fully upholstered armchair was designed by Jens Houmøller Klemmensen around 1940 and produced by Skive Møbelfabrik. Its sculptural silhouette, with a gently curved backrest and distinctive rounded armrests, conveys a balanced and welcoming feel, inviting you to sit back and enjoy the comfort it offers.
The seat retains the original coil springs, while the elegantly tapered solid wood legs combine oak at the front and beech at the back, reinforcing the visual and structural harmony of the piece.
Recently, the armchair has been reupholstered in "Blans" wool, in a gray-brown shade, designed by Hanne Vedel and woven by Kjellerup Væveri, with the backrest buttons covered in the same fabric, respecting the material and chromatic coherence of the original design.
The model was illustrated in Nyt Tidsskrift for Kunstindustri in 1942, which is evidence of its relevance in the Danish design scene of the time.
Jens Houmøller Klemmensen (1906-1991) was educated at the School of Architecture of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1934. His work falls within the functionalist tradition, although his furniture from the 1930s and 1940s, including this armchair, reveals the influence of a softer Danish modernism, characterized by the search for human, comfortable and elegantly simplified forms.
