DESCRIPTION
JENS HOUMØLLLER KLEMMENSEN (Denmark,1906-1991) for Skive Møbelfabrik.
Armchair, ca. 1940
Oak and beech wood upholstered with wool fabric "Blans".
The upholstery is from a later period.
Measurements: 87 x 78 x 87 cm; 38 cm (seat height).
Armchair with organic lines and integral upholstery, designed by Jens Houmøller Klemmensen circa 1940 and produced by Skive Møbelfabrik.
The piece has a sculptural silhouette, with a gently curved back and rounded armrests that provide visual balance and a cozy feel. The seat retains its original coil spring system. The solid wood legs are distinguished by their angular lines and slightly tapered profile: the front legs in oak, the rear legs in beech.
The armchair has been recently reupholstered in "Blans" wool fabric, in a light off-white shade. The textile was designed by Hanne Vedel and woven by Kjellerup Væveri. The backrest buttons are covered with the same fabric, preserving the material and chromatic coherence of the design.
The model was illustrated in the magazine Nyt Tidsskrift for Kunstindustri in 1942, which attests to its recognition within the Danish design scene of the time.
Jens Houmøller Klemmensen was an architect and furniture designer, trained at the School of Architecture of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where he graduated in 1934. His work falls within the functionalist tradition, although his furniture from the 1930s and 1940s, including this armchair, reveals a clear influence of Danish modernism of soft forms, characterized by its formal humanism and its attention to comfort and materiality.
