DESCRIPTION
Pair of Italian "Diabolo" sconces, ca.1950.
With ball-and-socket joints.
Lacquered perforated aluminum cones and brass body.
Measurements: 20x16x10.5 cm (each).
This pair of wall sconces encapsulates the sophisticated essence of Italian Mid-Century Modern design. Their iconic shape and bold use of color make them ideal accent pieces for contemporary interiors.
Each wall sconce features a "diabolo" silhouette. The main body tapers elegantly at the waist and opens toward the ends, creating a visual dynamic of movement. Made of repulsed aluminum, they stand out for their vibrant red lacquer. The interior is lacquered in white, an essential technical feature to maximize light reflection and diffusion. When switched on, the Punctures in the trim allow small beams of light to filter through, creating a decorative scenographic effect on the walls, very typical of Italian lighting of the 1950s (Stilnovo or Arteluce style). The body is attached to the base by means of a brass ball joint that allows the light beam to be directed in different directions.
These pieces are representative of the "Dolce Vita" of industrial design. The combination of brass and saturated primary colors was popularized by anonymous Italian designers and great houses of the time.
