DESCRIPTION
EMILIO REY (Spain, 1932- 1988).
Coffee table, 1970s.
Gilded metal and glass top.
Measurements: 43 x 130 x 87 cm.
Coffee table, designed by Emilio Rey in the 1970s, whose aesthetic synthesizes the decorative spirit of Spanish design in the mid-twentieth century, where visual luxury and formal experimentation coexisted with a strong artisan vocation. Rey, a creator linked to the production of artistic furniture and interior design pieces of high scenographic presence, developed a very recognizable language based on metal structures of great dynamism and precious finishes.
The piece presents a golden metal base conceived as a large braided rope culminating in tassels, a theatrical and sophisticated gesture that dialogues with the international trend of the moment towards the ornamental and sculptural in furniture. The wavy glass top adds a contemporary taste that balances the exuberance of the support.
This table stands out for its iconic character. The growing interest in Spanish design of the 1960s and 1970s, coupled with the scarcity of works by Emilio Rey, makes this model especially attractive to collectors.
