This "Barcelona" table, designed by Mies van der Rohe and produced by Knoll, is one of the most refined expressions of the modern ideology of the famous German architect. Conceived as a complement to the furniture created for the German Pavilion at the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition, the piece embodies the Miesian maxim of "less is more", where the structure becomes pure constructive elegance.
Its welded and chromed steel base, formed by two crossed planes in perfect geometric tension, supports a glass top that enhances the visual lightness and transparency of the whole. The result is a table with an architectural presence, sober and timeless, which has become an absolute icon of 20th century design.
An essential work in the repertoire of Mies van der Rohe and an undisputed classic of modern furniture published by Knoll.
Mies van der Rohe was one of the fundamental figures of the Modern Movement and, in addition to his architectural work, he left a decisive mark on industrial design. His furniture, conceived as a direct extension of his architecture, is characterized by structural purity, minimalist elegance and innovative use of materials. During the 1920s and 1930s he created some of the most iconic pieces of modern design, such as the Barcelona chair and table, the Brno chair or the MR Chair, objects that combine constructive rigor and formal refinement.
