Designed circa 1960 by Lucian Ercolani for the British firm Ercol, the "Grandfather" rocking chair is a recognizable piece of post-war modern furniture. Made of bent and turned wood, its distinctive high-backed silhouette with vertical rods reflects the masterful craftsmanship and refined language that defined Ercol's production.
Lucian Ercolani was able to reinterpret the English furniture tradition from a contemporary aesthetic, combining functionality, visual lightness and remarkable comfort. This rocking chair, which has become an icon of 20th century domestic design, stands out for its timeless elegance and careful construction quality.
Ercolani worked with Parker Knoll before founding his own furniture manufacturing company, ERCOL. The company enjoyed an international reputation thanks to its famous designs and the excellent quality of its production.
