Charles and Ray Eames designed the DAX chair as part of their famous Plastic Chairs collection. Produced in the early 1960s, these pieces perfectly represent the revolution the Eameses brought to contemporary furniture through their innovative use of fiberglass.
The Eames were the first to mass-produce plastic chairs. They are versatile and multifunctional. They are a range of one-piece shell chairs molded to fit the contours of the human body that uniquely combines three basic concepts of interior design: lightness, elegance and structural strength.
"Getting more of the best for more people for less" is the motto of husband and wife team Charles and Ray Eames, designers whose architectural innovations contributed to the advancement of furniture, design and industrial manufacturing. Charles and Ray Ames, a husband and wife artistic couple, worked in the fields of industrial and graphic design, fine art and film, and are responsible for numerous designs that have become classics of the 20th century. They were pioneers in the use of new techniques and materials such as fiberglass or plastic resin for the manufacture of chairs, and their creations can be seen in the Design Museum in London and the MoMA in New York, among many others.
