This iconic "Djinn" sofa, designed by Olivier Mourgue at the height of the futuristic design effervescence of the 1960s, is one of the most emblematic pieces of the Space Age aesthetic. Its organic, fluid and almost anthropomorphic silhouette made it a symbol of the pop modernism of the time, achieving worldwide fame after appearing in Stanley Kubrick's film "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968).

Mourgue conceived the Djinn series as an almost living piece of furniture, inspired by changing and sensual forms, where the seat is transformed into a soft sculpture that seems suspended between the human and the inanimate. The result is a radically contemporary piece, capable of bringing character, history and cinematic sophistication to any interior.

Olivier Mourgue is a French designer trained at the École Boulle and the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, graduating in 1960. After working in Stockholm for Nordiska Kompaniet, in 1963 he began his collaboration with the firm Airborne International, where he created his famous Djinn series (1965), which became an icon of space age design after its appearance in Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey".

In 1966 he established his own studio in Paris, developing furniture and interior design projects for important French institutions and companies, as well as visionary proposals such as the futuristic interior of Visiona for Bayer AG. His work is today an essential reference of pop modernism and experimental design of the 1960s.
