JAN EKSELIUS (Sweden, 1946)
Pair of "Etcetera" armchairs, 1970s.

Upholstery in Larsen fabric.

The iconic "Etcetera" armchair, designed in the 1970s by the Swede Jan Ekselius, is one of the great symbols of the most experimental Scandinavian design of the late twentieth century. Conceived as a deeply sculptural piece, its fluid and enveloping silhouette refers to the futuristic imaginary and space age aesthetics, where the organic form becomes the absolute protagonist.
With its bold curves and continuous structure, the "Etcetera" stands out not only for its visual impact, but also for its extraordinary ergonomic design, a reflection of Ekselius' talent for combining comfort and avant-garde. Upholstered in an elegant Larsen fabric, this early version - manufactured in the 1970s - is particularly prized by collectors, as it belongs to the very first editions of the model.
Jan Ekselius is renowned for his contribution to contemporary Swedish furniture, with designs that combine clean lines, formal innovation and a strong architectural sense. The "Etcetera" armchair remains his most celebrated creation: a timeless piece, somewhere between functional object and domestic sculpture. He devised the Etcetera chair as a prototype for his school workshop at the Royal College of Art in London. This model brought him worldwide recognition.
