DESCRIPTION

ILLUM WIKKELSØ (Denmark,1919-1999) for Ryesberg Møbler.
Pair of modular armchairs model "Apollo", 70s.
Cognac leather.
With matching ottoman.
Measurements: 80 x 101 x 103,5 cm; 37 cm (seat height).
Exclusive and rare lounge chair set designed by Illum Wikkelsø, consisting of two "Apollo" armchairs and matching ottoman. Produced by Ryesberg Møbler in Denmark during the 1970s, this set represents one of the most distinctive and characteristic examples of Danish design of the period.
The "Apollo" model is distinguished by its bold, almost sculptural form. The deep, rounded leather seats are seamlessly integrated into black lacquered molded plywood bases, creating a striking contrast between the soft, organic forms and the clean, architectural structure. The braided leather edging around the seat highlights the high level of craftsmanship and adds an exclusive, refined detail.
The set is modular, allowing multiple configurations: the armchairs can be placed facing each other, in parallel or offset, adapting to different spaces and interior styles.
The seats are upholstered in original cognac-colored leather, with a rich natural patina that shows the quality and age of the materials. The depth of the seat and its ergonomic shape offer exceptional comfort, while the ottoman completes the relaxing and cozy experience of the whole.
Illum Wikkelsø was one of the most renowned Danish designers, despite being one of the least known. It is known that he graduated from the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, and worked for Jacob Kjaer and the architectural firm of Peter Hvidt and Orla Molgaard-Nielso, where he already left his mark on Danish design furniture, which went on to spread around the world.
