The lamp articulates a dynamic vertical axis in which an eagle of spread wings, modeled in brass with meticulous work of texture in feathers and anatomy, perches on a sinuous structure that evokes vegetable stems. The serpentine support, reminiscent of stylized bamboo, unfolds from a circular spiral base, generating a helical movement that guides the gaze upward to the figure of the bird. Three flowers with agate petals in pearly and pink tones introduce a chromatic counterpoint. The work is part of the French tradition of decorative arts, but incorporates a language of the seventies, where the integration of sculpture and functional object reached a particular popularity.
Henri Fernandez's career allows us to understand the technical and conceptual complexity of this piece. Trained in architecture in Paris, he began his career collaborating with Jean Prouvé, a key figure in the synthesis between engineering and modern design. In the 1950s he designed interiors for the automobile company Facel Vega, participating in emblematic models such as the Facel Vega HK500, an experience that consolidated his mastery of fine materials and handcrafted detail applied to luxury environments. In 1960 he founded his own design agency, developing residential, commercial and institutional projects for high-profile clients, including French President Georges Pompidou. Recognized with the Prix de Rome in 1948 and the Grand Prix National de l'Architecture in 1982, Fernandez consolidated a career marked by formal elegance and technical innovation.
