This armchair, designed by Marco Zanuso in the 1950s, is an emblematic example of the formal experimentation that characterized post-war Italian design. It features rounded, sinuous forms, with a fully curved finish that conveys a sense of comfort and visual harmony. The structure is lightened by its tubular legs.
Marco Zanuso (Milan, 1916 - 2001) was one of the most influential architects and industrial designers of the 20th century. His work encompasses both complex architectural projects, such as the Olivetti office buildings in São Paulo and Buenos Aires, characterized by triangular and spherical modules covered by concrete shells, and furniture and industrial design objects, in which he combined technical innovation, ergonomics and modern aesthetics. Among his best-known designs are the Fourline armchair (1964), series of children's furniture in plastic and lacquered wood, as well as the Locarno and Mastro tables, in addition to radio and television sets and other industrial products.
Zanuso also had an outstanding teaching career, being a professor at the Polytechnic School of Milan, and in 1966 he was appointed president of the Industrial Design Association, consolidating his influence in the training of new generations of designers. Throughout his career he received numerous awards, including the 1994 San Carlo Borromeo Award for his entire career, reaffirming his legacy as one of the great references of modern Italian design.
