DESCRIPTION

Brutalist chair; Basque Country, 1950s.
Carved wood.
Presents remains of the original label.
Measurements: 95 x 38 x 38 cm.

This Spanish brutalist chair with three legs is clearly inscribed in the aesthetic currents developed in the Basque Country during the 1950s, where architecture, sculpture and design shared the same language of formal austerity and constructive rigor. Its structure reduced to the essential, the absence of ornamentation and the prominence of the material refer to a conception of the object as an autonomous and functional form. The piece emphasizes the formal balance characteristic of Basque brutalism, and is presented as a solid and coherent example of design that transcends the utilitarian to dialogue with sculpture and contemporary space.
