DESCRIPTION
Set of four chairs; c. 1960.
Wood and bulrush.
Measurements: 45 x 45 x 45 cm (x4); 79 cm (backrest height, x4).
This set of four chairs, ca. 1960, in wood and bulrush stands out for its sobriety and functionality, reflecting an aesthetic clearly linked to traditional rural design with influences of mid-20th century modern furniture. The chairs have a solid dark wood structure, with straight lines and balanced proportions, where utility takes precedence over ornamentation. The seat and back, made of braided bulrush, provide a warm contrast in both texture and color, as well as offering a light and breathable solution, highly valued in hot climates. This type of handcrafted weave also adds an authentic and timeless character to the ensemble.
Formally, the design is simple but robust: straight legs, crossbars that reinforce stability and low, slightly sloping backrests for greater comfort. The absence of superfluous decorative elements reinforces its functionalist character, close to trends such as rationalism or reinterpreted vernacular furniture.
