DESCRIPTION

MIGUEL MILÁ (Barcelona, 1931-Bilbao, 2024) for Tramo.
Max Bill floor lamp, 1960s.
Metal and methacrylate.
Works. This lamp is an original vintage item, so it shows signs of wear and tear.
Measurements: 181 x 53 x 24 cm.

The Max Bill floor lamp, designed by Miguel Milá in the late 60's for his own firm Tramo (Tramos Molestos), is an exercise in extreme minimalism and constructive honesty. Despite bearing the name of Max Bill, the master of the Ulm School (as a tribute to the rationality they both shared), it is a piece with Milá's unmistakable stamp.

With a lampshade made of molded methacrylate in caldera color, its design of clean lines and balanced proportions reflects the search for functionality and simplicity characteristic of the author. It provides a warm and diffused light. It is, without a doubt, a benchmark of modern Spanish design in the 1960s.

Miguel Milá began his studies at the School of Architecture, although he soon abandoned them to work in the office of Federico Correa and Alfonso Milà. In 1958 he set up his own business as an industrial and interior designer. In the early sixties he witnessed the birth of Spanish industrial design, and throughout his long career he has been awarded the ADI FAD Delta de Oro prize six times, the first time in 1961, for the "TMC" lamp. He was also awarded the National Design Award in 1987, the Sant Jordi Cross in 1993, and in 2010 the CoNCA National Culture Award.

The Max Bill floor lamp, designed by Miguel Milá for Tramo, created in 1964, is a fundamental piece of modern Spanish design. It incorporates a refined double methacrylate shade, with a light gray exterior and white interior, which offers a soft and perfectly controlled illumination. Its slender structure in lacquered metal, with curved arm and circular base, reflects the balance between functionality and elegance characteristic of Milá.
