DESCRIPTION
Armchair; Germany, 1920s.
Walnut and olive wood.
Measurements: 176 x 66 x 62 cm.
This unique armchair, made in interwar Germany, embodies an aesthetic deeply linked to reuse. Built from the remains of farm implements, the piece transforms originally functional elements into a domestic object with a strong expressive charge, where the irregularity of the veins, the hollows and the traces of wear are not hidden, but integrated as an essential part of its formal language.
In a context marked by scarcity after World War I, this type of furniture dialogues with currents that valued economy of means. Although contemporary with movements such as the Bauhaus, the armchair is situated in a register closer to the expressive, where rusticity becomes an aesthetic resource. The combination of walnut and olive provides chromatic and structural hallmarks, reinforcing the tension between the organic and the constructed. Far from standardized industrial production, the piece is presented as an almost sculptural object.
