This exceptional set of four low armchairs "Orbis", conceived by the German designer Luigi Colani for the firm COR in the 1970s, perfectly embodies the organic and futuristic aesthetic that characterizes his work. Its rounded and enveloping lines offer a sculptural presence while maintaining a timeless elegance. Covered in their original brown velvet, these pieces are in very good overall condition. Each armchair rests on an iconic white shell, in excellent condition, mounted on functional original casters, adding practicality without compromising style. The four matching cushions complete the set harmoniously.
Luigi Colani (Berlin, 1928 - Karlsruhe, 2019) was an influential industrial designer of Kurdish and Polish origin, internationally recognized for his radically organic approach to design. Trained in sculpture and painting at the Berlin Academy of Arts and later in aerodynamics at the Sorbonne in Paris, he developed a personal vision based on biomorphology, which he called "biodynamics." His work is characterized by curved, fluid and aerodynamic forms that reject traditional orthogonal geometry, seeking a synthesis between ergonomics, nature and movement. Colani brought this philosophy to multiple fields of design, from automotive, where he worked for brands such as BMW, Fiat and Alfa Romeo, to furniture, domestic objects and large-scale industrial design.
