The CH29 "Sawbuck Chair" chairs, designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1952 for Carl Hansen & Søn, represent one of the most recognizable examples of Danish Modern design for their combination of simplicity, functionality and elegant craftsmanship. They are distinguished by their lightweight frame with sloping trestle legs, curved backrest and ergonomic seat upholstered in black, generally made of light wood such as beech or oak, achieving a warm, minimalist aesthetic typical of mid-20th century Scandinavian furniture, as well as great stability and comfort despite their delicate appearance.
Hans J. Wegner, trained as a cabinetmaker, was one of the great renovators of the chair in the twentieth century, developing a work based on a deep knowledge of wood and formal refinement. His designs, present in institutions such as the MoMA in New York or Die Neue Sammlung in Munich, are today an essential reference of modern design.
