DESCRIPTION
Side table; Denmark, 20th century.
Rosewood and brass.
Measurements: 148 x 48 x 48 cm.
Mid 20th century modern style coffee table, with an elegant design and sculptural character. It stands out for its curved top in rosewood, with a warm and expressive grain, framed by a black lacquered edge. It rests on four stylized legs that add visual lightness, and incorporates golden brass details that add sophistication. It is a functional piece that also acts as a decorative element.
For the purity of its lines, the boldness of its proportions and the exquisite combination of rosewood, black lacquer and metallic accents, this table can be dated with great certainty to the 1950s or 1960s. It falls squarely within the avant-garde of post-war international design, showing obvious and strong affinities with the genius of Italian interior design of the period. In this sense, the piece is indisputably in the taste and evokes the creative spirit of Milanese masters such as Ico Parisi, Gio Ponti or Paolo Buffa, who assiduously explored this precise dialogue between dramatically grained woods, ebonized frames and subtle brass details. Although there is no visible signature, the high quality of its craftsmanship denotes the work of a first class cabinetmaking workshop.
