DESCRIPTION
DAVID MARSHALL (Edinburgh, 1942).
Dining table, ca. 1980.
Gilt bronze with green patina on the exterior and beveled glass top.
Measurements: 76 x 220 x 100 cm.
Dining table by David Marshall, with rectangular beveled glass top and two bronze sculptural bases. The structure combines gilded surfaces on the inside with an intense green patina on the outside, creating a rich play of materials between shine, oxidation and texture.
The bases, with their irregular, organic profiles, recall eroded natural forms, open trunks or primitive architecture, and give the table a strong presence without detracting from the visual lightness of the whole. The transparent glass allows the metalwork to be fully contemplated, making the structure the true expressive center of the piece.
David Marshall was born in Edinburgh in 1942 and settled in Spain in 1965. From Benahavís, Málaga, he developed a very personal production in aluminum, brass and bronze, inspired by the landscape of southern Spain and marked by textured surfaces, manual finishes and a clear sculptural vocation. His metal pieces have established themselves as collector's items within the Spanish signature design of the second half of the 20th century.
