DESCRIPTION
GEMMA BERNAL (1949) and RAMÓN ISERN (1942-2025) for Tramo, Spain.
Arquímedes floor lamp, 1974.
Black lacquered metal with aluminum shade and adjustable arms in beech wood.
Counterweight and cable tensioning system.
Very good state of preservation.
Measurements: 180 x 125 × 20 cm.
Belonging to the Archimedes collection, this floor version allows to adopt different positions thanks to its counterweight system and cable tension, a technical solution that brings mobility to the set and allows to orient the point of light according to the needs of the space.
The piece combines a beech wood structure with black lacquered metal elements and an aluminum shade, creating a contrast between the warmth of the natural material and the industrial precision of its components. In this lamp, Bernal and Isern develop a dynamic, light and adjustable reading object, in which the function determines the form without renouncing a remarkable sculptural presence.
Gemma Bernal and Ramón Isern, both trained at EINA, developed an outstanding career in Barcelona's industrial design. They began their collaboration in the late sixties with Beth Galí, forming a team linked to product design, furniture and technical innovation. Bernal and Isern collaborated for more than twenty-five years, creating pieces such as the shower-phone, the Ona tableware and the Arquímedes lamp. Both combined their professional activity with teaching, contributing to the development and consolidation of industrial design in Barcelona.
