DESCRIPTION
Savonarola style dining table, LIGNE MÉTAL. France, second half of the twentieth century.
Wrought iron base and glass top.
Measurements: 75 x 220 x 100 cm.
Dining table edited by Ligne Métal, with wrought iron base and rectangular glass top with rounded corners. Its design refers to the Savonarola style, whose origin is linked to a chair preserved in the convent of San Marco in Florence and traditionally associated with the 15th century Italian Dominican priest Girolamo Savonarola.
In this piece, the slender wrought iron elements curve and intertwine under the tabletop, forming central motifs close to the silhouette of a lyre. The structure generates an expressive play of lines, movement and stability, while the glass top introduces a particularly elegant contrast: it visually lightens the whole and allows the base to become the true sculptural focus of the design.
The table combines solidity and transparency, decorative tradition and contemporary sensibility. The iron adds strength and character, while its fluid lines avoid any rigidity, giving rise to a functional piece with a marked ornamental quality.
