DESCRIPTION
Table lamp; Spain, 1950.
Manises porcelain and white opaline globe.
Measurements: 70 x 20 cm.
Made around 1950, this lamp combines the ceramic tradition of the Valencian town of Manises with a historicist-inspired structure in gilded metal and a white opaline globe.the body is composed of three bulbous elements of white porcelain molded in relief, whose volumetry recalls plant or marine forms, creating an interesting play of light and shadow on the surface. These modules are articulated by knots and rings of bronze or patinated brass, which give verticality and a solemn air to the whole. The base, profusely decorated with motifs of acanthus leaves and scrolls, refers to the baroque and rococo ornamental repertoire, reinterpreted from the decorative sensibility of the post-war period.
The piece is part of the decorative trend that characterized much of the Spanish production of the 1950s, when the Manises workshops experienced a remarkable revitalization. During this period, manufacturers combined the artisanal excellence of porcelain and ceramics with designs intended to embellish bourgeois interiors, responding to a demand for elegant and representative objects.
