DESCRIPTION
CARLOS PICARDO for Darro.
Armchair model SA-2. Spain, design 1959.
Steel structure, wooden arms and seat and back in foam rubber reupholstered in textile.
Good state of preservation. Vintage product without functional defects, with possible marks of use.
Measurements: 106 × 63 ×78 cm.
Armchair model SA-2, designed by Carlos Picardo in 1959 and produced by Darro. The piece responds to the modern ideology promoted by the firm, based on furniture with sober lines and precise construction, in dialogue with the formal purification of Nordic furniture.
The armchair combines a light steel structure with wooden arms and upholstered volumes of simple geometry. The contrast between the black frame, the warmth of the armrests and the leather tone of the seat and backrest provides material balance and elegance, without resorting to superfluous ornamental elements.
Carlos Picardo was responsible for the artistic direction of Darro, one of the key firms in the renovation of Spanish furniture in the mid-20th century. From this position he promoted a modern and restrained line of design, oriented towards constructive quality, functionality and the adaptation of Spanish furniture to the international languages of the time.
