DESCRIPTION
RODOLFO BONETTO (Milan, 1929 – Milan, 1991).
“Unghia” model floor mirror. Italy, 1970s
Brown molded resin and mirror.
In very good condition, with slight signs of wear.
Measurements: 160 cm (height).
The design of this mirror fully embodies the aesthetics of the Italian Space Age, when new technologies in molded plastic made it possible to create fluid volumes and highly modern organic forms. The ascending, continuous shape of the body, topped by the diagonally positioned mirror, creates a dynamic and sculptural silhouette.
Rodolfo Bonetto was one of the leading figures in postwar Italian industrial design. In 1958, he founded his own studio in Milan, from which he developed projects for numerous sectors of industrial production, ranging from electronics and home appliances to furniture, lighting, and automotive design.
Throughout his career, he collaborated with companies such as Olivetti, Brionvega, Artemide, and Fiat. He was awarded eight Compasso d’Oro prizes, the most prestigious recognition in Italian design, and some of his products are part of international museum collections, including that of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
