Variable measurements: 90 × 20 × 70 cm.
The Flamingo stands out as an ingenious exploration of balance and mobility applied to lighting. Its articulated system allows the arm to be extended and oriented in a wide range of positions, while the integrated transformer acts as a counterweight and keeps the structure stable in various positions. The slenderness of its profiles and its shifting silhouette evoke the neck and long legs of the bird that gives the model its name.
Designed in 1985, the lamp combines technical precision with visual lightness, transforming a functional object into an almost kinetic presence. Its wide range of motion allows it to be used as a table or floor lamp, adapting to the space and the user’s needs. An example of this model is part of the design collection at the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich.
Fridolin Naef is a Swiss designer who trained at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Zurich. His “Flamingo” model, produced by Luxo Italiana, is his most renowned design and is featured in the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich.
