This unique lamp transforms a Leitz filing cabinet—one of the most recognizable objects in an office setting—into the base and structural framework of a light fixture. The repurposing of an everyday industrial product connects the piece to the experimentation carried out by the so-called New German Design movement during the 1980s, a movement characterized by the use of unconventional materials and the incorporation of ready-mades into design. In contrast to the neutrality of earlier functionalism, this type of object introduced humor, irony, and a convergence between furniture, design, and artistic creation.
