Floor lamp, made in Manises during the 1960s, whose shaft design is an example of the ceramic tradition. Its central body, crafted from white glazed ceramic, features a relief decoration of geometric and floral motifs—a common characteristic of the work produced by the Manises workshops. The piece combines the rich craftsmanship of ceramics with ornamental bronze elements and a circular marble base, creating a piece with a strong sculptural presence. The vertical structure of the shaft, topped by turned ceramic elements and a textile shade with clean lines, reflects the decorative taste of the 1960s, when lighting began to take on a leading role as an aesthetic element within the domestic space.
Manises, a town located in the province of Valencia, is one of Spain’s most important centers for ceramics, with a pottery tradition dating back to medieval times. Beginning in the 14th century, it gained great prestige for its production of gilded earthenware and decorative ceramics, initially linked to Islamic influence and later to European manufacturing traditions. Over the centuries, its workshops developed a distinct identity based on technical quality and artisanal craftsmanship. During the 20th century, particularly in the 1950s and 1960s, Manises experienced a new boom thanks to the production of decorative pieces and design objects, combining traditional techniques with more contemporary styles.
