Mirror consisting of a white-lacquered fiberglass cylinder with a beveled edge, housing an oval mirror panel. Its refined geometry and the contrast between the cylindrical volume and the delicacy of the mirror make this piece a standout example of the fascination with the space-age aesthetic in the 1970s. This model was one of Roger Lecal’s most widely distributed designs, marketed in various versions, including both floor-standing and tabletop models.Conceived as a sculptural object as well as a functional one, the mirror reflects the designer’s interest in pure geometric forms and the use of innovative materials, such as fiberglass, which was widely used in avant-garde design during the 1970s.
Roger Lecal studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. After beginning his professional career at various advertising agencies, he founded his own design studio in 1958, where he developed projects in furniture, interior design, and industrial design. During the 1960s and 1970s, he collaborated on the interior design of hotels, restaurants, and commercial spaces, distinguishing himself through a formal language characterized by great simplicity and elegance. His creations, characterized by a synthesis of functionality and sculpture, are part of major design collections and are preserved in institutions such as the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, cementing his status as one of the most representative French designers of the second half of the 20th century.
