Table lamp attributed to British designer and sculptor Lindsey Balkwill, created during the 1980s. Crafted from ivory-colored synthetic resin, it stands out for its sculptural design featuring organic volumes and biomorphic forms, fully representative of the postmodern aesthetic that defined international design during those years. The shade blends harmoniously into the body of the piece itself, creating indirect lighting that enhances its sculptural character and transforms the lamp into a true sculpture.
Lindsey Balkwill achieved international recognition under the name Lindsey B., renowned for her decorative sculptures and design objects inspired by Art Deco and Cubism, reinterpreted through the aesthetic of the 1980s. She studied graphic design at St. Martin’s School of Art in London and later worked alongside sculptor John Taylor, head of the sculpture department at the prestigious mannequin firm Adel Rootstein, where she honed her skills in sculpting with resin and other materials. In 1983, she founded her own company, Lindsey B., through which she produced a series of sculptures, furniture, and lighting fixtures that are now considered representative of British postmodern design from that decade.
