DESCRIPTION

MANFREDO MASSIRONI (Padua, 1937–2011).
Set of four Polyon cubes.
Stainless steel.
In perfect structural condition. The metal may show slight surface marks.
Measurements: 41 x 50 x 43 cm (per cube).
Set of four cubic modules from the Polyon series, conceived by Manfredo Massironi as part of his research into modular design and the relationships between geometry, perception, and functionality. Designed to be used independently or in multiple combinations, these elements can serve as side tables, stands, or environmental sculptures. The Polyon series is an excellent example of the convergence of art, design, and perceptual research that defined avant-garde Italian production during the 1960s and 1970s, making it a collection particularly prized by collectors of radical design and designer furniture.
Manfredo Massironi was a leading figure in Italian kinetic art during the second half of the 20th century. Trained as an architect, he was one of the founding members of Gruppo N in 1959, a collective that, together with Milan’s Gruppo T, revolutionized research into visual perception, movement, and viewer participation. His work is part of major international collections, including the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
