The “Saturn” lamp, produced by Società d’Elettricità Marelli around 1960, is a magnificent example of Space Age-inspired Italian design. Its composition centers on a large dark ceramic sphere pierced by a white ring, immediately evoking the image of the planet Saturn and reflecting the fascination with space exploration that shaped design in the 1960s and 1970s. The slender iron structure, consisting of thin vertical supports and metal tension rods, lends visual lightness and a refined balance between geometry and sculpture, while the sphere suspended at the center reinforces the effect of weightlessness.
