DESCRIPTION
MARIO BELLINI (Milan, 1935) for Artemide.
“Area 50” ceiling lamp, designed in 1974.
White polycarbonate body and cream-colored synthetic fabric shade.
Requires an E27/E26 light bulb.
In very good vintage condition.
Measurements: 45 x 45 cm.
The most distinctive feature of the “Area 50” lamp is its thermoformed synthetic diffuser, with a wavy, organic profile that envelops the light source, creating soft, ambient lighting. This plastic treatment of the surface and the expressive use of industrial materials reflect Bellini’s interest in exploring new formal possibilities within lighting design.
Mario Bellini achieved early international success in the fields of architecture, urban planning, and furniture design. In 1987, the Museum of Modern Art—which includes twenty-five of his works in its collection—dedicated a retrospective exhibition to him. Bellini has collaborated with leading European and American design firms, including Artemide, Vitra, and Flos. He has been awarded eight Compasso d’Oro prizes and the Gold Medal for his work by the President of the Republic of Italy.
