DESCRIPTION
Pair of armchairs. Spain. 1960s.
Stained pine wood frame with seat and backrest made of woven rush.
Restored. In good overall condition, with signs of wear.
Measurements: 60 x 59 x 90 cm; seat height 37 cm.
Pair of Spanish armchairs from the 1960s, made of stained pine and woven cattail. The pieces reflect a tradition of folk furniture with artisanal roots, reinterpreted with a formal simplicity closely aligned with mid-20th-century modern taste.
The frame, with its straight lines and sturdy proportions, has hallmarks of contrast with the handcrafted rush weaving, which adds texture, warmth, and a distinct graphic quality. The weaving of the backrest, arranged in a geometric cross pattern, serves as the set’s primary ornamental element, transforming a functional design into a motif of great decorative impact.
