Alexandre Callède was a professor at the School of Fine Arts in Bordeaux. Throughout his life he received numerous medals and awards, such as the Society for the Promotion of Progress (Paris) or the Arts-Sciences-Lettres vermeil, as well as the medal of honor from the Ministry of the Interior for his artistic activity in the service of local authorities. He was also a member of the jury of the Salon d'Automne in Paris.
