Cesare Ceribelli studied at the Academy of France in Rome, being a student of Rodolini and Chelli. He settled in Paris in 1866 and became a French citizen. He specialized in genre figures and portraits. Member of the Society of French Artists, he exhibited regularly at the Official Salon of Paris and at the Salon of French artists until 1907. The French State bought him the bust of Emperor Publius Septimius Geta, which was followed by other commissions. In 1911 he requested permission from the French state and reached an agreement with it to reproduce in reduced size the statue of Joan of Arc made by Henri-Michel-Antoine Chapu and then exhibited at the Louvre Museum and now at the Musée d'Orsay.
