DESCRIPTION
Archer. Japan, Meiji period, late 19th century.
Patinated and gilded bronze.
Wooden base.
Measurements: 45 x 32 x 20 cm.
If the piece stands out for anything, it is for the skill and ability of the artist, who was probably familiar with the work of the prolific sculptor Miayo Eisuke (Japan, ca. 1868-1912). Our author represents with special attention an archer at the moment of drawing the bow. He focuses all his attention on a meticulous description of the posture subjected to a moment of great effort. The armored costume has been described with great attention to detail (dressed in a haramaki and tunics decorated with kamon and wheels in gold), as well as his battle-hardened expression.
