EUTROPE BOURET (Paris, 1833 - 1906).
"Singing Cupid".
Bronze with beautiful patina in excellent condition.
With Pinèdo foundry stamp, Paris.
Measurements: 77 cm (height); 27 cm (base diameter).

Large bronze of a singing cupid. He stretches his arm in the air and looks up while singing. A mandolin hangs from his shoulder in the back. Wonderful chisel work and detail. Bouret's sculpture often deals with classical themes, such as allegories of love, spring or the arts, but also shows a great interest in the Middle Ages in a novel and romantic sense.

Pinèdo, a prestigious artistic bronze and furniture company, was first run by the father around 1850, and then by the son, who was also a sculptor, in 1865 under the name "Émile Pinèdo fils". Pinèdo participated in the Chicago Exposition of 1893, where he presented works that attracted public attention for the quality of their polychrome patinas.

Eutrope Bouret was a French sculptor, a disciple of Louis Buhot. Throughout his career the artist worked with various techniques and materials, among which are marble, plaster, terracotta or bronze, he also made some chryselephantine pieces. Among his most remarkable works is the bust of the writer Alexis Bouvier, which once adorned his tomb in the popular Parisian cemetery of Père-Lachaise, now disappeared.
