DESCRIPTION
ÉMILE-CORIOLAN GUILLEMIN (Paris 1841-Paris, 1907).
"Miquel de Cervantes".
Patinated calamine.
Measurements: 53 x 13 x 11 cm.
Calamine sculpture representing the bust of the writer Miguel de Cervantes. The piece is aesthetically inscribed in the current of historicism that rescued a set of mythical figures of antiquity. French sculptor of the Belle Époque, Émile Guillemin worked mainly in bronze, although he also made works in other materials. He trained with his father, the painter Auguste Guillemin, and with Jean-Jules Samson. He showed his work at the Paris Salon between 1870 and 1899, being awarded an honorable mention in 1897.
