Wood carving of devotional theme, a Romanesque Christ, although with elements that announce the transition to Gothic. Thus, the perizonium is shortened showing the turned thighs, and the four nails that dominate in the Christ representations of the Middle Ages become three. However, the naturalistic will is still incipient, so that the face reflects a certain hieratism, with closed eyelids and stylized oval. The hair and the drapery of the cloth of purity show synthetic incisions, although the legs and knees have been turned with a veristic sense. This is a transitional work, belonging to a hinge period in the way of understanding art, since it marks the transition from a symbolic and spiritual conception of art, inherited from the late Antique and early Christian world, towards a progressive search for naturalism and expressiveness, characteristics that will be consolidated in the Gothic period. This transformation does not occur abruptly, but is manifested through works that, like this Christ carved in wood, show mixed stylistic elements.
