DESCRIPTION

Empire female head. France, Empire, c. 1800.
Patinated and partially gilded bronze.
Possibly it was the top of a piece of furniture.
It shows wear.
Measurements: 17 x 8.5 x 9 cm.

Finial, possibly from the front uprights of a showcase or a "secrétaire à abattant", made of patinated and partially gilded bronze. It represents the bust of an Egyptian sphinx, according to the taste of the first French Empire, being a motif that was very popular among the bronze artists of the early nineteenth century.
