Pair of baroque sculptures of Italian or Spanish invoice. Conceived for a frontal contemplation, they present a carving of half bulk. They represent the Child Jesus in his condition of Savior of the World, and Juan Bautista Infante, his cousin, with whom he often shares devotional scenes during the baroque period, both in painting and sculpture. Both figures adopt restrained and playful gestures, balanced movements through a dynamic contrapposto. They tilt their heads while bending one knee. Their shapely and plump legs express with naturalism the soft carnality of a child. The faces are also plump, cherubic, with soft cheeks and half-open mouths, clear foreheads and curly hair, following the manners in vogue during the baroque period. Jesus makes the gesture of blessing with his right hand and holds the orb with his left. Juanito is represented with a cane. In both, the cloths undulate in broken and dynamic folds, creating draperies that favor the play of chiaroscuro.
